Keir Starmer apologises to Epstein’s victims saying Mandelson was his mistake

Keir Starmer apologises to Epstein’s victims, acknowledging Mandelson was his mistake

The controversy surrounding the UK Prime Minister’s selection of Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States resurfaced after government documents were unveiled yesterday. These files highlighted Starmer’s awareness of Mandelson’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein, which posed a reputational risk, before the appointment was finalized.

Speaking in Northern Ireland today, Starmer took responsibility for the decision, stating, “It was me that made the mistake” in choosing Mandelson and offering a renewed apology to the victims of Epstein’s crimes.

The released records also detailed Mandelson’s financial settlement upon being dismissed. As a former minister under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, he requested over £500,000 in severance, which has drawn further scrutiny.

Scottish Labour leader criticises appointment as a ‘catastrophic error’

When asked today whether Mandelson should return the funds, Anas Sarwar, leader of Scottish Labour, responded: “Yes, he’s shown himself to be a traitor to his nation.”

“He’s proven to be a traitor to many of his former colleagues, although that’s of less importance. He should never have been considered or appointed as ambassador, and he should do the right thing and return the money he received.”

Sarwar called Starmer’s choice a “catastrophic error,” especially after new details emerged earlier this year about Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein. He publicly urged the PM to resign, emphasizing the gravity of the oversight.
