Five Met officers taken off duty after weapons find

Five Met Officers Suspended Following Weapons Discovery

Bag with Firearms Found Near London Mayor’s Residence Sparks Investigation

A bag containing weapons was uncovered on a London street, leading to the temporary removal of five Metropolitan Police officers from their frontline roles, the force confirmed. The item was located outside the home of London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, as reported by *The Sun*. The police noted that the bag was likely misplaced by officers shortly before a member of the public stumbled upon it.

“At around 9:40pm, a member of the public contacted the police after spotting a bag with Met-issued firearms and a Taser on a south London street,” the force stated. “Officers arrived within seven minutes and secured the items without incident.”

According to a witness, the bag was spotted on the roadside, prompting suspicion. Jordan Griffiths, who shared the details with the newspaper, described how he examined the contents, captured photos, and alerted authorities. “When the police arrived, they were visibly surprised and swiftly removed the weapons,” he said.

“It was indicated the bag had been left there by one of Sadiq Khan’s security officers, which aligns with the location,” Griffiths added.

Sir Sadiq’s spokesperson called the incident significant, emphasizing the need for the Met to prevent recurrence. The Directorate of Professional Standards is currently examining the situation. In 2017, the mayor had agreed to a full-time police presence, ensuring 24-hour protection, after concerns about personal safety arose.
