GB News confirms stroke diagnosis
Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is undergoing treatment at a hospital following a stroke, as shared by GB News in an official statement. The channel revealed that Holmes fell ill last week, with medical staff confirming the stroke. His team and the GB News staff have expressed hopes for a quick recovery.
Role and substitute at the channel
Since joining GB News in 2022, Holmes has co-hosted the morning programme alongside Ellie Costello. The channel noted that Alex Armstrong will temporarily replace him during the upcoming week. Holmes, who is 66, has previously discussed health challenges, including spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and difficulties with mobility.
Medical details on stroke
A stroke happens when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, according to NHS guidelines. Common symptoms include face drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties. Immediate medical attention is critical if these signs are observed. GB News’ CEO, Angelos Frangopoulos, described Holmes as a “loved member of the GB News family” in a brief statement.
“A stroke occurs when blood stops flowing to part of the brain,” NHS guidance explains. “Possible symptoms include face weakness, arm weakness, and speech problems. Urgent medical intervention is needed if a stroke is suspected.”
