Essex Police responded to a report at Long Hide, a village near Dunmow, at 22:45 BST on Friday. The incident involved a 19-year-old woman who sustained severe injuries and later passed away at the scene, according to the force. The victim has been identified locally as Jamie-Lea Biscoe.
A 37-year-old man from Dunmow was taken into custody on suspicion of allowing his dog to act dangerously out of control, resulting in fatal injury. The animal was seized by authorities, and specialist officers secured the area to ensure safety. A police cordon remained in place at the residence on Sunday.
“This incident will be a shock to the local community,” stated Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper on Saturday. He added that investigators are examining the circumstances to determine the exact sequence of events.
Essex Police is seeking public assistance, urging anyone with CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, or other relevant information to contact them. The case is listed as incident 1419 from April 10. Meanwhile, St Michael and All Angels church announced plans to hold a prayer service and light candles on Sunday afternoon in remembrance.
