Four Teens Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing of Boy, 16
Cambridgeshire Police have arrested four teenagers following the death of a 16-year-old boy after he was stabbed. The incident occurred shortly before 19:00 BST on Sunday in Riseholme, a neighborhood close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough.
School Closure Due to “Serious Incident”
The nearby St John’s Church School announced its temporary closure, citing a “serious incident” nearby. In an email shared with the BBC, the school stated that “police are currently processing a site in close proximity to the school,” prompting the decision to shut down.
A 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, were charged with murder. Two additional teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested for allegedly aiding the perpetrator. The 16-year-old girl, also from March, faced a separate charge of possessing a blade.
All suspects remain in custody. A substantial police cordon is still in place around the Ortongate Shopping Centre, with heightened patrols expected for several days. Some floral tributes have been placed near the cordoned area.
“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack and there will be a significant police presence in the area over coming days.”
The shopping centre remains operational, though its rear car park is closed. Authorities are appealing for public assistance, urging anyone with relevant information or home CCTV footage to reach out.
Residents have been advised to stay informed as the school plans to “continue to monitor the situation” and provide updates on reopening.
